Michael is the recipient of a 2014 Pew Fellowship from the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, a multidisciplinary grantmaker dedicated to stimulating a vibrant cultural community in the greater Philadelphia region. Read the press release here.
Canopy Dances received its South American premiere in a set of concerts given by the Sociedad de Música de Cámara de Bogotá on March 3 and 8 in Bogotá and Tenjo, Colombia.
Long, long ago has been newly arranged for saxophone ensemble by Jonathan Wintringham. The Eastman Saxophone Project recently premiered the arrangement in a series of concerts, culminating in a performance at the Kennedy Center on April 23. Wintringham has also created a new version of Canopy Dances for saxophone quartet.
The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society has commissioned Michael to write a suite for flute and piano, to be premiered Oct. 19, 2015 by Jeffrey Khaner and Charles Abramovic. Michael also appeared recently on the PCMS stage as a pianist, presenting a duo recital with tubist Carol Jantsch at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
