Walimai made the rounds in May! Michael and the indefatigable Ayane Kozasa presented the work in Pennsylvania viola-piano duo recitals May 5, 9, and 10, along with works by Enescu, Schubert, and Quincy Porter, following up with a performance in Washington, DC on May 18.
Following the success of the orchestral premiere of The Seahorse and the Crab with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra Association has commissioned a new work for spring 2014 performance on its educational outreach concerts. Other upcoming projects include new vocal works for Philadelphia's Lyric Fest and for the AIDS Quilt Songbook Anniversary Concerts, curated by pianist Thomas Bagwell.
Little Suite, a four-movement duo for violin and guitar, received its world premiere on April 18 at the Curtis Institute of Music. The work was commissioned by Curtis for performance by violinist Zoë Martin-Doike and guitarist Gideon Whitehead.
